"Diary of a Madman" (1835) is a farcical short story by Nikolai Gogol. Along with "The Overcoat" and "The Nose," "Diary of a Madman" is considered to be one of Gogol's greatest short stories. The tale centres on the life of a minor civil servant during the repressive era of Nicholas I. Following the format of a diary, the story shows the digression of the protagonist, Poprishchin, into insanity. "Diary of a Madman" is the only one of Gogol's works written in the first person, as the story follows diary entry format.
Kenneth Williams plays Poprishchin, who yearns to be noticed by a beautiful woman, the daughter of a senior official, with whom he has fallen in love. Williams brings Nikolai Gogol's demented masterpiece to life.
Originally intended as the narrative of an animated film which was never made.

The last wolf in Scotland was killed in 1680. When a rich businessman announces plans to re-introduce wolves to his Highland estate he advocates the benefits of predators helping to control red deer numbers, a boost to tourism, and an increase in forestation. But he needs to convince the sceptics, including local sheep farmers who fear his wolves will prey on their livestock and threaten the survival of a way of life that’s lasted for generations.
